Objectives:

To learn image warping.

Motivation:

This project involves programming an image warping utility. Issues include design and use of a warping mesh data structure, grid representation (linear or spline) and user manipulation, scanline (or inverse map) morphing.
See the program xmorph for an example of the program and the interface. If it's not available, try installing the xmorph plug-in for the GIMP (it's the same program but can be run from the GIMP). See the GIMP Plug-In Registry for the xmorph source.

Description:

Implement a GUI-based image warping tool which allows the user to overlay a warp mesh. The user should be able to:
- manipulate the mesh control points while the graphical mesh representation updates in real-time (for an idea of the interface, go through the Composer warping tutorial).
- if representing the mesh via splines, the user should be able to adjust the stepsize parameter to vary the granularity of the appearance of the curves
Once the user has selected an appropriate mesh for warping, s/he should press a button to execute the warp.

Notes, suggestions, and additional requirements:

The requirement for the mesh is given in order of increasing complexity (and grade):
- (minimal requirement) linear grid
- single spline segments (e.g., single segments over image using a minimal number of 16 control points for the entire 2D mesh).
- mutliple spline segments
You may assume the source grid is uniformly distributed over the source image.
For the program, as in the previous assignment, the use of a good toolkit is recommended (such as gtk). The following interaction mechanisms should be made available to the user:
- the user needs to be able to manipulate the mesh points
- if representing the mesh via splines, the user needs to be able to adjust the curve stepsize parameter
